This is the first Albarino to be produced in South Africa and was introduced by the Newton Johnson family. They brought the vines of this aromatic grape to the Cape, intending to establish it in the maritime conditions of the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Originating from the wet and cool Atlantic northwest coast of Spain and Portugal, and grown in soil similar to the Cape's native soil, which is of granite origin, the Albariño expresses subtle definition, offering a floral and complex character.
There is a concentration of crisp and intricate fruit flavours, accompanied by fragrant white flowers. Ripe limes, tangy nectarine, and quince fruit are complemented by a mealy beeswax character. Delicate hints of apple blossom and honeydew contribute alluring top notes. The waxy texture envelops the palate, with succulent fruit in the middle and a prolonged flavour carried by refreshing acidity in the finish.
