Poderi Aldo Conterno Langhe Nebbiolo Il Favot 2003…
In 2003 Conterno decided not to bottle any of his Barolos and declassified it all into the Il Favot. He did this because he felt the wines would not age as well as usual and because of this would not live up to the exceptionally high standards he sets. The reason he felt they would not age as well was because 2003 was a hot year and as a result the wines are a little riper and more forward than usual. To give you an idea of the quality of the fruit that has gone into this, his standard Barolo sells for £60 per bottle and his single vineyard Romarisco sells for £85 per bottle.
I have to say I thought this was delicious. Yes it has some of the Nebbiolo structure but it has a beautiful weight and dare I say elegance, not a word I would usually associate with wine like this.
The normal retail price for this wine is £37.99 but we are able to offer this for
£125 per six bottles (just over £21 per bottle).

Sensational new Harris Whisky
Over the last few years we have increased our range of single cask bottles as we feel there are some incredible whisky’s to be found made in this way. Our latest discovery is a relatively new operation called Harris Whisky. We really think these are of exceptional quality.

BENRINNES Cask No:7014 13yrs 55%VOL £49.99
MACDUFF Cask No:1382 14yrs 46%VOL £44.99
TAMDHU Cask No:14085 14yrs 58.5%VOL £54.99
MACDUFF Cask No:1375 15yrs 59.9%VOL £51.99
Also if you really fancied something special then grab yourself one of these little gems (available to order while stocks last only 100 made)
GLEN GRANT Cask No: 6650 35yrs 57.5%VOL £125
A Speyside great!
This limited edition single malt of just 100 bottles really demonstrates the wonderful spirit of Glen Grant. It emanates a youthfulness that, at times, belies its age and richness.
Light amber in colour, with a luxurious syrupy look when swirled in the glass.
Complex nose of amontillado sherry, moving through to Bourbon, with orange liqueur and candied pears.
Discrete tannins, rich winter fruit cake, ripe pears, delicate spice and honey on the palate, ending with an enticing, lingering, rich, warming finish.

Recent wine tasting highlights
After another hugely successfull wine tasting we thought it might be of interest to highlight a few of the most ordered wines on the night.
Prosecco Cipriano £8.99 - personelly I think this really is a great buy, it has a lovely fresh feel and just tastes so clean and pure. Its a hundred times better than anything else we have tasted for this sort of money.
Godello 2007 Joaquin Rebolledo £10.99 - I am sure if you have been in the shop recently we will have tried to sell you a bottle of this. For us its everything that a good Sauvignon Blanc should be, but isn't. Its a wine you can just sit back and enjoy no strings attached.
Chateau La Lagune Mademoiselle L Haut Medoc 2005 £14.99 - this is effectivly their third label. We have found this sort of wine can be found lacking some what. This is certainly not the case with this fine example and of classic Bordeaux winemaking. We cant say that £14.99 is a value wine but it sure delivers a lot of wine for the money.

Leonildo Pieropan
On a recent fact finding mission to Italy I had the pleasure of spending some time walking the vinyards and tasting the wines at one of Soaves greatest producers Leonildo Pieropan.
After a stroll through the La Rocca Vineyard (pictured here) we were amazed to hear that they did not plan to harvest the La Rocca vineyard until the end of October. They are always looking for ripeness but they also don’t mind a bit of botrytis as well.
We then set about tasting the wines and what a set of wines they were...
Pieropan Soave Classico 2007 £10.99 - A wonderfully drinkable wine. Very fresh and clean, some aromatic richness and in another 3 months or so I feel it will fatten up a touch more.
Pieropan Soave Calvarino Classico 2006 £15.99 - Some of the first vineyards that they bought similar to the above just much more complex. I really loved this and if you have never tasted a proper Soave then you have got to give this a go.
Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico 2006 £20.99 Amazing wine extra weight due to been a latter harvest and of course some oak richness. Still extremely clean and fresh though. Should be kept for a few more years to really start showing its stuff and I reckon this would be sublime with a pan-fried scallop dish.
Pieropan Le Colombare Recioto di Soave 2004 £19.99 - This was everything we look for in a sticky, sweet and rich yes, but some lovely fresh balancing acidity that pulls the whole thing together. Perfect with some Panettone or if you fancied some classic Italian cheese.
I have certainly fallen back in love with the wines of Soave and you would be hard pushed to find any better examples than these.
If your interested in any of the above wines drop us an email or phone the shop on 01423 522270.
