The wines of Tuscany epitomise what we love about Italy and when you throw in the magic of the olive oil from the region you have a true culinary delight. Many of the greatest Tuscan wineries also produce olive oil, and of a quality that continues to amaze people. Made in small batches and highly prized the arrival of these peppery stars is an event we get very excited about. We’re therefore happy to present a tasting of both the wines and the oils from our favourite producers.
You can expect a selection of wine and oil from the following:
Selvapiana
Poggiotondo
Fèlsina Berardenga
Capezzana
Fontodi
As usual tickets are just £5 and available from the shop. Please drop us a line if you’d like to come along.
We are working on our December tasting as we go to press. We have a provisional date of Friday December 9th from 6 - 8 p.m. but will confirm final details when we get them.

Musar Tasting 23rd September 2011 report...
Well a really big thanks to all that came to the Musar tasting last week. It’s always a treat to be able to show a flight of vintages and never more so when all are made to show the individual character of the year.
A couple of surprises on the night as well firstly just how delicious the Chateau Rose 2006 (£15.99) which is made from white wine with a splash of Cinsault was a sure hit. Hochar 2004 (£12.99) really does now stand on its own two feet and not just the little brother.
As ever in this type tasting the flight of vintages tasted (2004, 1999, 1998, 1993, 1991 and 1979) proved much to talk about. 1998 did find a lot of fans in the room as did the 1999 the older vintages also had people singing their praises obviously more mature but extremely complex fragrent noses which if we could bottle up as a perfume would sure to sell well.
Lastly a thanks to Chateau Musar for the 1979 a wine that many of us are unlikely to encounter again and certainly proved a fantastic conclusion to a great tasting.

Chateau Musar instore tasting...
On Friday September 23rd we’re delighted to present a Chateau Musar tasting and this will run, as usual, from 6-8 p.m. in the shop. Tickets are priced at £5 and are available now. Please get in touch if you’d like to come.
We are still as enthusiastic as ever and continue to stock one of the best ranges of older vintages in the country. We thought it a good time to show a decent selection of the wines that Musar make - these extend well beyond the famous Chateau Musar itself as a number of other ranges are produced. If you are unfamiliar with these other bottles or simply haven’t tried them then this is an ideal opportunity to discover the depth of quality available. We’ll have a good selection of excellent bottles open from the full range - Chateau Musar, Hochar and Musar Jeune - so you’ll find red, white and rosé wines on show and, as ever, we’ll be on hand to provide any information you might need.

Domaine François Cotat Chavignol Sancerre 2010
God bless François Cotat, it is easy to forget that out on the peripheral edge of the wine trade there is a dedicated band of winemakers who continue to follow their own path and make the wine they want to, not what trends suggest they should make. Perhaps no other winery typifies this artisan approach more than Domaine François Cotat.
We have a very limited amount of wines available all prices are per bottle.
Rosé 2010 £21.99
Caillottes 2010 £24.99
Culs de Beaujeu 2010 £31.99
Monts Damnés 2010 £31.99
Grande Côte 2010 £34.99
The first of the delectable 2009 Burgundies are now with us, and they are a marvellous sight! You’ll probably know by now about the glorious vintage that many growers in Burgundy experienced in 2009, and we’ve made sure we got in early to ensure our share of the bottles. A crucial factor in this vintage is that the wines are already very open and most growers say they won’t close up, as in many quality vintages, so they taste wonderful right now.
Read moreFollowing Christine Austin's very welcome article in the Yorkshire Post we thought a few words on the 2009 Beaujolais vintage were appropriate.
Regular customers will have heard us singing the praises of this fantastic vintage and those who followed our advice have been rewarded accordingly - it really is one of the great years for an area that has slowly been emerging from the shadows as a key player in quality wine. With prices of many regions of France going through the roof Beaujolais remains one of the best French areas for out-and-out value. In terms of price-to-quality there can't be anywhere in France that comes close. The bottom line here is that we have some of the best producers of the region on the shelf right now.
Gone are the days when people would buy only Beaujolais Nouveau every November - instead we are very happy to show off an excellent range of villages from the region and show why there is so much variety available. These are superbly made wines, and it's not just the fact that they are delicious that makes them special. There's considerable structure and complexity to keep fans of genuine 'fine wine' happy, and at a fraction of the price of Beaujolais's more famous Burgundian neighbour.
Because of the quality and demand of the 2009s our stocks are steadily running down, and we'd urge anyone who wants to see what all the fuss is about to come and have a chat with us - then try a bottle. We think you'll be impressed.
