Test Match Taste-Off And The Winner is...

    Posted on

We recently hosted a highly entertaining competitive wine tasting between Miles Corish MW and Richard Kelley MW in aid of the Australian Bush Fires Appeal. Some friendly rivalry had the two MWs pulling out all the stops to showcase their respective countries. It was pretty close but the winning country by a small margin was Australia. In total a very generous £1680 was raised which will be split between the nominated charities of Richard and Miles. Thanks to both MWs for their superb fundraising initiative and providing some truly outstanding wines.

There were some exceptional wines but.... Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon 2005, was so fresh for a 15 year old wine and easy to see why it’s one of the best examples in the world....... another astonishing wine was the Vergelegen Cabernet Reserve 2001, hint of herb and leaf and with a wonderful mature mellow dark fruit, stunning to say it’s nearly 20 years old...... The Foundry Syrah 2005, another wine which would be perfectly at home in Dorian Gray’s wine glass, again defies its age to show a soft spicy side with super smooth tannins....... lastly Curley Flat Pinot Noir 2012, simply a wine we had forgotten how good it was. Probably well over 10 years since we last had it on our shelf but my what a pretty Australian Pinot Noir - aromatic, great purity, plush smooth fruit with a ripple of spice. Easy to fall in love again with Pinot Noir when it’s as good as this.
