2020 Waterkloof Circle of Life Red
Waterkloof vineyards are on the south-facing slopes of the Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay in the Western Cape. Half of the estate has been set aside to preserve the rare and abundant natural vegetation, fauna and flora (fynbos) situated on the property and in 2008 they became The Western Cape Wineland’s first WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Conservation Champions. The estate benefits from being the coolest in the Stellenbosch wine growing region with altitude and cooling breezes from the Southern Ocean both playing their part.
Grapes are handpicked and hand sorted to ensure only the best berries are used. For this wine a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are fermented and aged separately in French oak for 12 months. The wine is then blended and spends another 5 months in wooden fermenters. The resulting wine is unfined and unfiltered.
On the nose aromas of plums and red berries followed by herbal notes and spice. The Petit Verdot and Syrah adds to the elegance and complexity of the wine and integrates well with the other varietals. Tannins are well rounded and structured..
