Bodegas Barbadillo - A Sherry Tasting Journey, Thursday 30th June at 7pm

Bodegas Barbadillo - A Sherry Tasting Journey, Thursday 30th June at 7pm

We are really pleased to be able to welcome Barbadillo’s International Ambassador Tim Holt to Harrogate to take us on a journey through the wonderful world of Sherry. Tim is an entertaining speaker and a mine of information about all things Sherry related.

Sherry (like Riesling) has gained an unfair reputation, when in actual fact it offers remarkable value and quality as this evening will show. There are very few wines in the world that are made with such care and take so much time. Not only is the flavour unique Sherry is also one of the most versatile wines to pair with food from tapas style dishes to modern oriental and everything in-between!

Barbadillo was founded by Don Beningo and Don Manuel Barbadillo back in 1821 in Sanlucar de Barrameda. If you are lucky enough to be able to walk around the old cellars it almost feels like little has really changed. Indeed, tasting sherry from an old Oloroso Solera that could quite conceivably have been started back in the late 19th century. You really can still feel and taste the history.

Sanlucar de Barrameda is one of the three Sherry producing towns in Southern Spain. Its coastal position benefits from Atlantic breezes and gives it the special climactic conditions for the making of Manzanilla. So clearly we will have that on show but we will also showcase the other key Sherry styles from Amontillado, Palo Cortado to Oloroso and Cream. We’ll finish with the full-on sweet styles of Moscatel and Pedro Ximenez. Most of the wines are from Barbadillo’s old and rare range. So very much a Sherry lover's heaven!
