Alheit Vineyards 2024 Releases
''Aside from the heartbreakingly low yields, it’s all glad tidings. I haven’t been this confident in a vintage for quite some time. Hopefully you’ll also remember my honest assessments of previous vintages and trust me when I tell you that our 2024’s will go down as some of the best wines ever to come out of the Hemelrand winery.'' Chris Alheit May 26th 2025
Hereafter Here 2024 – £31.99
From three young Chenin Blanc blocks not yet incorporated into Cartology. Bursting with citrus, pear, and white peach fruit, framed by a fine line of acidity. Vibrant, juicy, and approachable now, but with the backbone to age gracefully for 5–7 years. A brilliant introduction to Alheit’s style.
Hemelrand Vine Garden 2024 – £37.99
A high-altitude, wind-battered vineyard on the Hemel Aarde Ridge (360m). Made from a quirky but traditional field blend: 31% Chardonnay, 29% Roussanne, 20% Chenin, 18% Verdelho, 2% Muscat. Exotic aromatics of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, and ripe orchard fruit, with a saline edge. Medium-bodied, textured, and floral — an elegant expression that’s utterly charming and food-friendly.
Nautical Dawn 2024 – £51.99
Single-vineyard Chenin Blanc in Stellenbosch, overlooking False Bay. Granite soils warm early despite the cooling maritime winds, giving a crystalline purity of fruit. Notes of lime, green apple, fennel, and crushed stone. Taut, linear, and mineral-driven, with an almost Chablis-like precision. A wine of energy and length.
Fire by Night 2024 – £51.99
From Nuwedam farm in the Swartland’s Paardeberg, where Chenin vines planted between 1972–1985 yield intensity and depth. Layers of yellow plum, baked apple, and chamomile over a waxy, textural palate. Richer than Nautical Dawn but still finely balanced with freshness and salty minerality. A reference-point Swartland Chenin Blanc.
Huilkrans 2024 – £70.99
Two Skurfberg mountain blocks, long considered sacred ground for Chenin. After drought forced a pause in 2020 and 2021, this rare bottling returns with profound concentration. Aromas of quince, honeycomb, wild herbs, and flint. On the palate: dense, structured, yet lifted by striking acidity. Perhaps the most complete wine in the range — serious and age-worthy, showing the grandeur of the Skurfberg.
Magnetic North 2024 – £70.99
Ungrafted Chenin Blanc parcels grown at 520m on sandy, iron-rich soils. A dramatic, high-energy wine with intense citrus oil, pineapple core, and sea spray. Palate is electric, tightly coiled, and incredibly focused. A cult bottling — distinctive, powerful, and long-lived.
