Only a small amount of magnums are produced each vintage and we are lucky enough to receive a tiny allocation every year.
Huilkrans is a single origin Chenin Blanc wine and is a fine expression of its Skurfberg origins. On the nose there are enticing aromas of ripe pear, succulent peach, and crisp apple mingle with soft hints of citrus and a hint earthy potpourri. On the palate, it unfolds with a rich texture and natural fruit weight that is balanced by a vibrant, well-integrated acidity. The flavours evolve gracefully, revealing layers of orchard fruit and a delicate savoury nuance that culminates in a long, lingering finish. This wine is both elegant and approachable and has delightful aging potential.
It has gained a very strong following amongst Chenin lovers and is considered by critics to be almost equal to Magnetic North in quality. Indeed if the legendary Magnetic North is the tenor voice of Skurfberg, then Huilkrans must be the deeper baritone. It works on a lower, richer frequency, but still unmistakably from this great appellation.
