Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlan is one of Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives and a benchmark for precision winemaking in northern Italy. Situated between Bolzano and Merano, the estate’s vineyards lie on mineral-rich porphyry and sandy soils beneath the Alps, where warm daytime temperatures are balanced by cool mountain nights. This combination gives the wines both ripe fruit and remarkable freshness. While Terlan is best known for its ageworthy whites, the estate also excels with South Tyrol’s native red variety, Lagrein, producing a rosé that captures the grape’s vibrant fruit and distinctive Alpine character.
Tasting Note
Made from 100% Lagrein, this beautifully bright rosé shows an intense salmon-pink colour with delicate cherry-red reflections. The nose is full of fresh raspberry, wild strawberry and red cherry, with a subtle hint of Amarena cherry and a touch of citrus zest. Gentle whole-bunch pressing and cool fermentation in stainless steel preserve the purity of fruit, while six to seven months on the fine lees add texture and softness.
On the palate, it is juicy, fresh and harmonious, combining vibrant berry fruit with lively acidity and a lightly savoury finish that is typical of Lagrein. Dry, refreshing and versatile, it is equally at home as an aperitif or alongside charcuterie, grilled fish, salmon, carpaccio and Mediterranean dishes.
