2024 Escarpment Chardonnay Martinborough
The 2024 Chardonnay comes primarily from Escarpment’s home block on the famous Te Muna Road alluvial terraces in Martinborough. It was a warm, dry vintage with very low yields but excellent fruit quality, giving the wine a little more generosity while retaining the freshness and precision we look for from Martinborough. Whole-bunch pressing, indigenous yeast fermentation and 11 months in French oak puncheons add texture and complexity without masking the fruit or mineral character.
Fresh, focused and beautifully balanced, with citrus, white peach and ripe apple alongside subtle spice and a creamy texture. The acidity gives the wine plenty of energy, while time in oak adds texture rather than dominating the fruit. A really good example of cool-climate New Zealand Chardonnay.
