François Raquillet, the 11th generation of his family to grow grapes in Mercurey, farms 14 hectares of superbly sited, mostly old vines. He works with low yields, ripe-but-balanced fruit and a strict sorting process, focusing on purity rather than power. The depth and concentration in his wines come from the vineyard, not heavy extraction.
His Bourgogne Rouge comes from 30-year-old vines in Mercurey and spends 10 months in 25% new oak. The result is a delicious, juicy and seductive Pinot Noir with real charm.
