Produced by Ernie Els Wines in Stellenbosch, this wine is sourced primarily from the Helderberg sub-region, with selected coastal parcels contributing to the final blend. It is composed of approximately 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cinsault, combining structure with approachability. The 2023 vintage benefited from balanced ripening conditions and extended hang time, resulting in fruit with both concentration and freshness.
Fermentation takes place in open-top stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation in French oak barrels (mainly second and third fill) for around 12 months, allowing integration of tannins and development of complexity without excessive oak dominance.
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep ruby colour, with an expressive nose of blackcurrant, plum and blackberry, layered with cedar, dried herbs and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied and well-structured, with fine, grippy tannins and balanced acidity supporting a core of red and dark fruit. Notes of cassis, Morello cherry and a touch of liquorice are complemented by earthy undertones and gentle oak spice. The finish is fresh, focused and persistent, with a juicy fruit profile and a savoury edge.
A polished and accessible Cabernet Sauvignon, combining structure, freshness and drinkability, with a clear expression of Stellenbosch terroir.
