2020 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge

Two sisters now run Domaine de la Charbonnière and they have taken it up another level in terms of quality. They own 12 hectares around Châteauneuf-du-Pape and another 4.5 hectares in Vacqueyras.

One of the things we like about Domaine de la Charbonnière is that they are not afraid to lead with Grenache, we like the brighter more elegent red fruits that Grenache brings to the wine. This is made from 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. So it has the red fruits from the Grenache buy a spicy leatheriness from the Syrah and the Mourvèdre adds a herby edge.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge food pairing - Such a versitle red so think red meat and hearty stews, it’s a powerful wine 15% so it does need something bold! venison would be another good pairing. It would also go equally well with a cheeseboard.
