Roncicone is a single-vineyard Gran Selezione made entirely from Sangiovese, from a vineyard at 320 metres above sea level in the heart of the Ricasoli estate. Its distinctive soils are formed from ancient marine deposits, with sandy layers, rounded stones, clay and traces of marine fossils. This geology, together with the vineyard's south-easterly exposure, gives the wine a character quite different from its CeniPrimo and Colledilà counterparts. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 22 months in large French oak casks, Roncicone is notable for its combination of floral freshness, spice and firm structure.
Tasting notes
Ruby red, with an elegant nose of ripe red cherries, wild berries and subtle floral notes, alongside hints of spice and a touch of resin. The palate is firm and focused, with concentrated red fruit, a pronounced mineral character and fine but assertive tannins. Bright acidity gives the wine freshness and definition, leading to a long, persistent and savoury finish.
