Hayes Family Wines is a boutique Barossa estate working organically across their vineyards, with a philosophy of minimal intervention and careful attention to site expression. Their wines are crafted in small batches, allowing each parcel to show its own character with clarity and finesse. Chardonnay ‘Primrose’ is sourced from a single, site in the northern Barossa sitting at an elevation of 400 metres. This nearly 50 year old block of Schulz Chardonnay is truly unique and is reputed to be South Australia’s oldest Chardonnay. Each year, production is limited to a single barrel, emphasizing quality and exclusivity.
Fermented and matured in French oak (with a portion new) and given time on lees, it shows layers of texture and complexity alongside its vibrant fruit. Aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus zest are framed by hints of almond and a delicate toastiness. The palate is fresh and finely structured, balancing creamy mid-weight texture with crisp acidity and a long, elegant finish.
