Produced by Mt Difficulty in Bannockburn, Central Otago, this is a beautifully expressive 100% Pinot Gris from one of New Zealand’s most distinctive cool-climate regions. Central Otago’s dry continental climate and strong day-to-night temperature variation allow the grapes to develop ripe fruit character while retaining freshness and acidity. The 2023 vintage was particularly successful, with a warm season followed by a cooler period that extended ripening and helped build flavour and balance.
Winemaking:
The fruit is harvested from Mt Difficulty’s Central Otago vineyards and processed quickly to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. The juice is settled before cool fermentation, allowing the natural varietal character to shine. The wine is made in a dry to gently off-dry style, giving it additional weight and texture while maintaining the bright acidity that defines Central Otago Pinot Gris.
Tasting note :
The nose is aromatic and inviting, with white peach, ripe pear, nectarine and jasmine blossom, alongside hints of baked pear, ginger and gentle brown spice. The palate is juicy, rounded and beautifully textured, with layers of stone fruit, citrus and red apple carried by refreshing acidity. A subtle sweetness gives breadth and richness, while a fine mineral edge keeps the wine focused and balanced. The finish is clean, persistent and lightly spicy, with lingering pear, citrus and floral notes.
A rich yet refreshing Central Otago Pinot Gris, combining ripe stone fruit, floral aromatics, gentle sweetness and vibrant acidity in a beautifully balanced style.
