Beat the Doldrums - A Magnificent Magnum Wine Tasting with Burgundy Nick
Friday 30th January
7pm - 9pm

When planning our tasting programme for the year ahead, we decided to start with a bang — opening the year with a line-up of genuinely special wines - .perfect for those grey days when you need something genuinely good to look forward to. The twist? Every wine will be poured from magnums.
Magnums are one of the best ways to experience fine wine. The larger format allows wines to age more slowly and evenly, often resulting in greater freshness, harmony and depth. They also bring a sense of occasion to the table: more to share, more to discuss, and a little more theatre in every pour
.Guiding us through the evening will be Nick Fisher — aka Burgundy Nick — sharing insight, context and stories as we taste, compare and explore together. We'll gather around large tables and start the evening with an aperitif, then settle in for the tasting.
Nick will talk us through a handpicked selection, from the precision and saline freshness of Quinta do Ameal’s Loureiro to the quiet depth and restraint of Alheit’s Hereafter Here, they show how thoughtful farming and sensitive winemaking let character shine. Nova Domus 2012 is a reminder of how great whites can age, gaining richness without losing poise, while Comte Armand’s Clos des Epeneaux is Burgundy at its most serious and complete — structured, expressive and quietly powerful. Bramaterra brings alpine lift and savoury complexity from northern Piemonte, a style that rewards time and attention, and Vergelegen’s Cabernet rounds things off with clarity, balance and confidence, showing just how refined Stellenbosch can be. Together, they’re wines chosen not for impact alone, but for depth, balance and the stories they tell in the glass.
To finish, we’ll slow things down and warm things up with hot raclette, served alongside a final glass of Vergelegen Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 — the perfect, comforting full stop to an evening built for sharing.
We'll taste:
