Produced by Domaine René Rostaing in the Northern Rhône, “Les Lézardes” is a Syrah-dominant cuvée sourced from declassified fruit and parcels just outside the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The 2016 vintage is widely regarded for its balance and structure, offering both concentration and freshness. Vinification is traditional, with fermentation in stainless steel and ageing in French oak barrels (mostly used), allowing the purity of fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep ruby colour, with an aromatic profile of blackberry, black cherry and plum, layered with violet, cracked black pepper and subtle smoked meat notes. On the palate it is medium bodied, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity supporting a core of dark fruit and savoury spice. A gentle mineral and earthy thread adds complexity, while restrained oak contributes structure without dominance. The finish is long, balanced and precise, with lingering elegant fruit, spice and plenty of Rhône savouriness.
A classic Northern Rhône Syrah, combining freshness, structure and varietal clarity, with age and no need to keep. Ideally decant this for two hours before drinking it.
