Founded in 1990, Royal Tokaji set out to bring new life to one of the world’s great historic wine regions. They have 108 hectares of vineyards, including parcels in three First Growths—Szt. Tamás, Nyulászó and Betsek—and in the prestigious Great First Growth of Mézes Mály. Their 14th-century cellars provide the ideal conditions for ageing, while a modern winery, built in 2010, looks to the future. Today, Royal Tokaji is recognised worldwide, with more than 100 international awards to its name.
For this wine, only the best Aszú berries—raisined grapes touched by noble rot—were selected for their flavour and balance. These were soaked in fermenting must for two days, then pressed and finished fermentation before being transferred to 300- and 500-litre Hungarian oak barrels. The wine aged for over two years in the estate’s deep underground cellars and was blended in spring 2020.
The result is rich and expressive, with aromas of fruit and spice. On the palate, notes of white peach and ripe plum meet fresh acidity and fine structure. Generous yet balanced, it lingers on a long, satisfying finish.
Serve chilled. Pairs beautifully with aromatic Asian dishes, spicy meats, or blue cheese.
