1985 Dow’s Vintage Port is a classic expression from one of the most widely acclaimed years of the 1980s. In the glass it shows a deep garnet core with tawny rim development, reflecting its age and gradual evolution. On the nose it reveals complex, mature aromas of dried black cherry, fig, plum and subtle cocoa, layered with tertiary notes of loam, cigar box, leather and cedar that speak to prolonged bottle development. Secondary hints of spice, orange peel and balsamic reduction add further depth and nuance.
The palate is rich and concentrated yet refined, with integrated acidity and smooth, fine tannins that have softened through time. Flavours of dried dark fruit, Christmas cake and hazelnut are carried by a firm structural spine and a subtle undercurrent of mineral tension. The finish is long and persistent, with warm spice, tobacco and a hint of saline lift lingering on the close.
This is a mature Vintage Port offering both complexity and balance.
