2009 C.V.N.E. Imperial Rioja Gran Reserva is a superb example of classic Rioja at its best — elegant, nuanced and beautifully aged. Made by one of Rioja’s most respected houses, it shows the hallmarks of long maturation in both barrel and bottle, delivering a wine that’s wonderfully complex yet wonderfully approachable.
Expect a rich bouquet of dried cherry, plum and blackberry fruit, layered with savoury notes of leather, tobacco, cedar and a touch of vanilla from oak ageing. The palate is silky and well-balanced, with finely integrated tannins, bright acidity and a lingering, elegant finish.
This Gran Reserva is drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve with further cellaring. Pair it with roasted lamb, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses to complement its depth and sophistication.
