2018 Réserve de Léoville Barton – Saint-Julien
Produced by Château Léoville Barton in Saint-Julien, Réserve de Léoville Barton is the estate’s second wine, crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on the gravel soils typical of the Médoc. The 2018 vintage reflects a warm, generous growing season, producing wines of ripeness balanced by structure. Vinification is carried out with a focus on precision and extraction, followed by maturation in French oak barriques, a proportion of which are new, to integrate structure and complexity.
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep ruby to garnet hue, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum, layered with cedar, graphite and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium-to-full-bodied, with ripe tannins and balanced acidity supporting flavours of cassis, black cherry and savoury herbal notes. Oak is well integrated, adding hints of vanilla, tobacco and pencil shavings without dominating the fruit. A mineral thread runs through the mid-palate, leading to a structured, persistent finish with lingering dark fruit and cedar.
A polished and approachable expression of Saint-Julien, offering both immediate appeal and the structure to develop further in bottle.
