Produced by De Toren Private Cellar in Stellenbosch, the 2019 marks a stylistic shift toward a Right Bank Bordeaux expression, composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vineyards—now over two decades old—deliver concentration from Merlot and finesse from Cabernet Franc, shaping a more focused and elegant blend.
The fruit is hand-harvested with strict selection, fermented in small batches, and aged for around 12 months in French oak (225L), with a portion in older barrels to integrate structure while preserving fruit purity and balance. The vintage itself was relatively cool for Stellenbosch, contributing freshness, aromatic lift and definition.
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep ruby-purple colour, with an aromatic profile of black cherry, blueberry and plum, layered with anise, floral notes and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with silky tannins and fresh acidity supporting a core of dark and red fruit. The Cabernet Franc brings lift, precision and a light herbal edge, while Merlot provides roundness and depth. Oak is well integrated, adding texture and gentle spice without dominance. The finish is long, balanced and refined, with lingering fruit, mineral nuance and savoury complexity.
A polished Right Bank–inspired blend, combining elegance, freshness and structure, with both immediate appeal and medium-term ageing potential.
