Produced by De Toren Private Cellar in Stellenbosch, Fusion V is the estate’s flagship Left Bank–inspired Bordeaux blend, composed of the “Noble Five” varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (dominant), Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Sourced from gravel-rich soils with strong afternoon sun exposure, the wine reflects both concentration and structure, hallmarks of the site and house style.
Vinification is meticulous, with hand-harvested fruit, careful extraction and ageing in French oak barriques (approximately 12–15 months), balancing new and used wood to integrate tannins while preserving fruit purity. The 2020 vintage is widely regarded as high quality in South Africa, offering both ripeness and freshness, and has received critical acclaim (≈95 points).
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep ruby to opaque core, with an aromatic profile of blackcurrant, black cherry and plum, layered with cedar, tobacco, anise and subtle floral notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and structured, with fine, mouth-coating tannins balanced by fresh acidity. Flavours of dark berries, cassis and liquorice unfold alongside a graphite and mineral thread, adding precision and depth. Oak is well integrated, contributing spice and texture without dominance. The finish is long, powerful and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, cedar and savoury complexity.
A benchmark Stellenbosch Bordeaux blend, combining power, polish and balance, with significant ageing potential and a clear expression of De Toren’s precision-driven style.
