Alice and Antoine Pouponneau are the proud caretakers of a 6.5-hectare vineyard, situated in the quaint village of Le Thoureil between Angers and Saumur. With a background in social work, Alice's familial connection to Burgundy led her back to her true passion for agriculture and wine-making in 2017. Antoine, on the other hand, honed his skills as a cellar master for La Tour du Bon in Bandol and as a consultant in Corsica, specializing in native yeast fermentation. With a focus on producing authentic and characterful wines, he has gained a prestigious list of clients, including esteemed names such as Chateau Latour and Cheval Blanc.
Together, they are fortunate to oversee vines that were planted 80-100 years ago, as well as more recent plantings from the 1980s, which include a variety of grapes such as Grolleau Noir, Grolleau Gris, Cabernet Franc.
"Huguette", is made entirely from Cabernet Franc grapes. It undergoes a 3-week maceration process and is then aged for 18 months in demi-muids before spending a year in the bottle before being released..
