Colledilà is perhaps the most direct expression of Ricasoli's understanding of Sangiovese and the influence of vineyard soils. This single-vineyard Gran Selezione comes from a 7.6-hectare vineyard at 380 metres above sea level, planted on alberese, a stony limestone and clay soil characteristic of Chianti Classico. Made entirely from Sangiovese, it is fermented in stainless steel before spending 22 months in 500-litre French oak casks, with a proportion of new oak. The result is a wine that combines the concentration and structure of its terroir with the elegance and freshness of Sangiovese.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby red, with aromas of ripe cherries, strawberries and dark plums, complemented by subtle spice, vanilla and a touch of oak. The palate is concentrated yet elegant, with layers of ripe fruit, a fine mineral character and a firm but finely textured tannic structure. Fresh acidity brings balance to the richness of the fruit, leading to a long, persistent finish.
