Résonance is a fascinating Oregon project with strong Burgundian roots. The estate was established by Maison Louis Jadot, one of Burgundy’s best-known producers, with the idea that the Willamette Valley could produce wines with the same sense of place and finesse found in Burgundy.
The project is based in the Willamette Valley, where cool Pacific influences, long growing seasons and a mix of volcanic and sedimentary soils provide ideal conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Résonance farms its own vineyards organically and also works with a small group of growers who share its focus on terroir-driven wines.
Winemaker Guillaume Large brought considerable Burgundian experience to the project, having worked closely with the celebrated Maison Louis Jadot winemaker Jacques Lardière. The aim is not to make Oregon Chardonnay taste like Burgundy, but to combine Burgundian precision and restraint with the freshness and character of the Willamette Valley.
A beautifully poised Chardonnay, combining ripe fruit with the freshness and precision that Oregon does so well. The nose is fragrant and lifted, with lemon blossom, jasmine, orange peel and white peach, followed by fresh hazelnut, vanilla and a subtle hint of spice.
The palate is fresh and vibrant, with citrus, pear and stone fruit alongside a fine mineral character. There is a gentle richness from the oak and lees ageing, but the wine never becomes heavy or overly buttery. Crisp acidity keeps everything lively, with a long, clean and slightly nutty finish.
This is a lovely example of Willamette Valley Chardonnay — refined and expressive, with a distinctly Burgundian feel but plenty of its own Oregon character. A wine for anyone who enjoys Chardonnay with freshness, texture and a little more complexity.
Food: Excellent with roast chicken, grilled or roasted fish, scallops, crab, lobster, creamy pasta dishes or roast pork. Also a very good match for mature hard cheeses.
