Domaine Chaume-Arnaud is a family-run estate in Vinsobres, one of the northernmost and highest of the Southern Rhône crus. Run by Valérie and Philippe Chaume-Arnaud, the domaine has been farmed biodynamically since 2003, with a particular emphasis on preserving freshness and expressing the character of its vineyards.
The Vinsobres comes from vineyards around 400 metres above sea level, where stony, clay-limestone soils and cooling winds help the grapes ripen slowly while retaining freshness. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, it is a particularly good example of the more savoury, structured side of the Southern Rhône. Ripe dark fruit sits alongside notes of garrigue, spice and black olive, with plenty of concentration but without excessive weight.
Tasting note
Deep ruby in colour, with an expressive nose of black cherries, blackberries and plums, followed by hints of wild herbs, black olive and freshly ground pepper. The palate is full and concentrated but nicely balanced, with juicy dark fruit, fresh acidity and firm but fine-grained tannins. There is a savoury edge to the fruit, leading into a long, gently spicy finish. A characterful Southern Rhône red with both richness and freshness.
