Domaine La Soumade is one of the leading producers in Rasteau, in the Southern Rhône, where warm, sunny conditions produce generous, full-flavoured reds. Founded by André Roméro in 1979, the estate is now run by his son Frédéric, continuing the family’s focus on characterful wines with plenty of depth.
Made predominantly from Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre adding structure and spice, this is a classic Southern Rhône blend. The grapes are hand-picked and sorted, and the wine is matured in concrete tanks before spending a further six months in a combination of oak vessels. The result is a rich, satisfying red that combines ripe fruit with savoury complexity and a welcome freshness.
Full-bodied and generous, with aromas of ripe black cherries, blackberries and plums, alongside notes of liquorice, cracked pepper and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is rich and rounded, with concentrated dark fruit balanced by fresh acidity, supple tannins and a savoury, spicy finish.
A natural partner for roast lamb, grilled beef, slow-cooked casseroles and game. Also excellent with hard, mature cheeses.
