Produced by Weingut Gunderloch in Rheinhessen, this is a 100% Riesling built around the character of the Roter Hang. The fruit comes from the flatter parcels of three exceptional sites — Rothenberg, Pettenthal and Hipping — all characterised by red Permian clay-slate soils, giving the wine its distinctive mineral and savoury backbone. It is classified as a VDP.Gutswein and farmed organically.
Winemaking:
The grapes are fermented and matured in stainless steel, keeping the wine focused on purity, freshness and the mineral character of the sites. At just 11.5% ABV, with 3.8 g/L residual sugar and 8 g/L acidity, it is technically dry but carries excellent natural tension and freshness.
Tasting note:
The nose is cool, precise and mineral, with lemon zest, green and yellow apple, mandarin and white peach, alongside subtle herbal and slate-like notes. On the palate it is lean yet surprisingly complex, driven by bright acidity and a fine mineral grip, with citrus and stone fruit balanced by a subtle savoury character. There is a lovely saline edge through the finish, giving the wine both energy and length.
A precise, mineral-driven Rheinhessen Riesling, offering remarkable freshness and site character at estate-wine level.
