The 2022 Estate Block 8 ‘Field Blend’ from Hayes Family Wines is a distinctive, organically grown red from the Stone Well sub-region of Australia’s Barossa Valley. A true field blend, it is made from interplanted old vines of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro in Block 8 of the estate vineyard, with the fruit harvested, fermented and matured together as a single wine. This traditional approach highlights the vineyard’s individual terroir and the character of the 2022 vintage. In the glass, the wine shows lifted aromatics of bright red fruits and subtle floral notes, leading to a medium-bodied palate with ripe berry flavours, savoury complexity and a gentle earthy edge. Fine, well-integrated tannins provide balance and structure, resulting in a harmonious, expressive wine that drinks beautifully now while offering the potential for further development over the next few years.
