Josef Ehmoser is a respected grower and winemaker in Austria’s Wagram region, where deep loess soils and careful vineyard work give his wines both substance and finesse. The single vineyard Hohenberg, classified Erste Lage, (the Austrian version of Premier Cru) comes from from the heart of the south-facing Hohenberg, high on the hills above Grossweikersdorf. The deep loess soils give the wine both substance and elegance, while maturation in large wooden barrels adds texture and complexity. Rested first on its gross lees, then partly aged on fine lees.
It shows layers of yellow stone fruit, gentle smoke and spice, and the classic herbal and peppery lift of Grüner. Structured and persistent, it shows both immediate charm and the potential to evolve gracefully over time.
