Quinta do Vale Meão, an esteemed estate in the Douro Valley founded by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira in the late 1800s, was acquired in 1998 by Francisco Javier de Olazabal and is currently managed by F. Olazabal & Filhos. The Vinha dos Novos vineyard, planted in 1996 on granite soils across approximately 3.5 hectares, benefits from high-altitude terroir imparting strong minerality and precision. Historically, its grapes, once blended into Vale Meão, influenced the wine’s profile enough to merit separate bottling to preserve its unique character. This 2022 vintage displays a vivid ruby color, with aromas of violets, bergamot, citrus, sweet spices, ripe red and black fruits, juniper, tea, as well as subtle chocolate and herbal notes. On the palate, it is bright, juicy, and elegantly structured, featuring lively acidity and refined tannins, occasionally complemented by smoky and mineral nuances. The finish is long and sophisticated, with enduring floral, earthy, and dark berry flavors.
