From Oldenburg Vineyards in Stellenbosch, this wine forms part of the flagship Rondekop Series, produced from a small selection of the best barrels sourced from the estate’s elevated, amphitheatre-like site shaped by multiple climatic influences and distinctive terroir.
The 2022 is Platters Cabernet Sauvignon of the year which is lofty praise indeed.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hand-harvested fruit is cooled overnight, then meticulously sorted before fermentation in stainless steel. A period of cold soak precedes spontaneous fermentation with regular pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel, followed by maturation for approximately 18 months in French oak (around 50% new). The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving structure and site expression.
Deep ruby in colour, the nose opens with black cherry, plum and violet, layered with cedar, graphite and dried herbs. The palate is precise and structured, showing a core of dark berry fruit and mulberry, supported by fresh acidity and finely grained, chalky tannins. Subtle oak integration brings vanilla, spice and a savoury bay leaf note, while a mineral thread carries through a long, focused finish.
A site-driven Cabernet Sauvignon combining elevation freshness, structural detail and restrained power, with clear ageing potential.
