Brolio Riserva takes the estate's classic Chianti Classico a step further, using Sangiovese from Ricasoli's vineyards and allowing more time for the wine to develop. The grapes come from a variety of soils, including the region's distinctive galestro and alberese, which contribute to the wine's structure and complexity. Fermented in stainless steel, it spends 18 months in 500-litre French oak casks, followed by further bottle ageing. The result is a more concentrated and structured Chianti Classico, with the depth to reward time in the cellar but plenty to enjoy now.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby red, with aromas of ripe cherries, dark plums and blackcurrants, complemented by notes of dried herbs, spice and subtle oak. The palate is full and rounded, with layers of dark fruit, well-integrated tannins and the freshness that is such an important part of Sangiovese. A long, savoury finish brings everything together, with the structure and balance to develop further in bottle.
