Château de Caraguilhes sits in the heart of the Corbières region in southern France. It’s a beautiful ancient estate, and also one of the area’s trailblazers in organic winemaking. The vineyard’s roots go back over 2,000 years, and since 1987, the estate has been fully dedicated to organic farming. It earned its official organic certification from Écocert in 1992. Today, some of its wines are also made using biodynamic methods, with certifications from Biodyvin and Demeter.
Les Gourgoules is a Rhone like Grenache, Syrah, Carignan blend. It is a deep, inky ruby colour with a violet halo that hints at its intensity. On the nose, rich scents of blackberry mingle with touches of olive tapenade, warm nutmeg cracked pepper, and sun-baked garrigue. The palate is silky and inviting, dark cherry and black olive flavours unfold before a gentle spice rushes in. Fine, powdery tannins add backbone, while lively acidity keeps the finish bright, zesty and endlessly moreish.
