Hacienda El Ternero is a historic estate in Rioja Alta, with origins dating back to 1077. Set in an unusual enclave surrounded by its own vineyards, the estate benefits from a relatively high-altitude location and a distinctive setting near the Obarenes mountains. The family-owned winery focuses on wines made from its own grapes, combining the character of the estate with a modern approach to winemaking.
La Pera is a blend of four grape varieties: 25% Tempranillo Blanco, 28% Viura, 26% Garnacha Blanca and 21% Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes come from younger estate vineyards planted at around 680–700 metres above sea level. Each variety contributes something different, from aromatic fruit and freshness to the texture and complexity of Viura. Fermentation takes place separately for each variety in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the wine’s fresh, fruity character.
Tasting note
A bright, expressive white Rioja with aromas of ripe pear, peach and tropical fruit, alongside fresh citrus notes reminiscent of blood orange. The palate is rounded and gently textured, with flavours of pineapple, passion fruit and juicy stone fruit. Good acidity keeps everything fresh and balanced, leading to a long, fruity finish.
Try it with grilled fish, prawns, seafood salads, chicken, tapas or fresh goat’s cheese. Its combination of ripe fruit and lively acidity also makes it a good match for Asian-inspired dishes.
