Enzo Pontoni, winemaker extraordinaire, of Miani has a penchant for perfectionism. He works quietly and tirelessly in his tiny plots of vineyards in the Colli Orientali DOC and is recognised as one of Italy’s premier winemakers.
The 2023 Miani Sauvignon Saurint shows a luminous straw colour with green-gold highlights, immediately conveying depth and clarity. The nose is precise and layered, revealing citrus zest, green apple and finely etched herbal notes of sage and tomato leaf, all shaped by a chalky, limestone-driven minerality from the Saurint vineyard. On the palate the wine is vibrant and energetic, with tangy acidity lending lift to a subtly creamy mid-palate, while flavours of citrus, fresh herbs and saline nuance build in tension. The finish is long and resonant, marked by crystalline mineral energy and a clean, saline edge that highlights both precision and quiet power.
