Produced by Quinta do Vesúvio in the Douro Valley, “Capela do Vesúvio” represents the estate’s micro-production, flagship Vintage Port, made only in exceptional years from a tiny selection of the oldest vines surrounding the estate chapel. The wine is drawn from very old field blends, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão and others, planted on schist terraces that deliver extraordinary concentration and structure.
Production is extremely limited, with fermentation carried out in traditional granite lagares with foot treading, followed by fortification and minimal ageing in large oak before bottling unfiltered. The 2024 vintage continues the Capela philosophy of maximum precision, intensity and longevity, representing the most refined and concentrated expression of Vesúvio fruit.
Tasting note:
The wine shows an opaque, inky purple-black core, with an intensely perfumed nose of blackberry, cassis and dark cherry, layered with violet, bergamot, rock rose and exotic spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and exceptionally structured, with dense, tightly woven tannins and vibrant acidity delivering immense tension and ageing capacity. Flavours of black fruit, plum and dark chocolate are supported by a profound schist-driven mineral core, giving precision and depth. Despite its power, the texture remains refined and controlled, with remarkable balance. The finish is extremely long, focused and persistent, with lingering floral notes, spice and mineral complexity.
