Winemaker Christophe has been farming biodynamically since 1999 and believes in minimal intervention thus allowing the soil to express the minerality of each terroir.
Made from 100% Gewurztraminer grown across several plots in Hunawihr, including part of the Grand Cru Rosacker on marl-limestone over muschelkalk, this is anything but traditional. The grapes see 15 days of skin contact, with a third undergoing carbonic maceration, then six months ageing on fine lees in barrel — bottled 100% natural, with no additions. The result is a striking orange-hued wine, naturally cloudy and best given time in a decanter to open up. Aromas are intense and layered: fresh and candied orange, ginger spice and a touch of anise. Dry yet deep and textured, it starts bright on the palate, carried by a gentle, appetising bitterness. Flavours of orange zest build into savoury, lightly roasted notes, leaving a wine that is rich, complex and full of character.
