Produced by Taylor's Port in the Douro Valley, “Sentinels” is a single-quinta style Vintage Port, sourced primarily from Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha and surrounding high-quality parcels that consistently perform at a near-declared level. It is crafted from traditional Douro field blends, dominated by Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, grown on steep schist soils that provide structure, concentration and mineral depth.
Fermentation is carried out in granite lagares with foot treading, followed by fortification and a short period of ageing in large oak vats before bottling unfiltered. The 2024 vintage of Sentinels reflects a refined, aromatic and approachable style, offering earlier accessibility than the classic Taylor’s Vintage while retaining structure and ageing capacity.
Tasting note:
The wine shows a deep purple colour, with a lifted nose of blackberry, black cherry and cassis, layered with violet, bergamot and subtle herbal notes. On the palate it is full-bodied yet more open-knit, with fine, ripe tannins and fresh acidity supporting a core of dark berry fruit and plum. A distinct schist-driven mineral thread adds definition, while the texture remains supple and balanced. The finish is long, smooth and expressive, with lingering floral notes, fruit and gentle spice.
A polished and expressive Vintage Port, combining intensity, accessibility and structure, suitable for earlier drinking than the flagship bottling while still capable of mid- to long-term ageing.
