This 30 ha estate has 8 ha of old vines near Brinas, and the family has been producing wines since the 1930's for their restaurant in the village. In 1983, Gonzalo's grandfather expanded sales to a wider market, using the Vina Santurnia label.
Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, the vineyards of Bodegas de Ayala lie on the border between Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Surrounded by windy slopes, their old vines benefit from the unique calcareous clay soils at a slightly elevated altitude, distinguishing them from their well-known neighbours.
The 2025 Viña Santurnia combines ripe citrus and orchard fruit with a subtle herbal note and a refreshing mineral edge. Light on its feet but with enough texture to make it interesting, this is an easy-drinking Rioja Blanco that works equally well as an aperitif or alongside food.
Fresh aromas of lemon, green apple and pear lead into a crisp, lively palate. There are notes of citrus peel, white peach and fresh herbs, with a gentle mineral character adding freshness. Clean, dry and nicely balanced, with a bright finish.
Excellent with grilled fish, seafood, salads, fresh goat’s cheese and lighter Mediterranean dishes. Also a great choice for summer drinking.
