Guided Tasting with Nick Fisher, Saturday 19th September

7pm - 9pm

Rolly Gassmann’s wines offer a distinctive take on Alsace, combining generous fruit, texture and a gently off-dry character with the freshness needed to keep them balanced. Rather than rushing wines to market, the domaine has the confidence to allow them to mature in bottle until they are considered ready to drink, giving them a remarkable sense of harmony and development. This is a style that rewards patience — and challenges the assumption that sweetness and freshness cannot coexist in a serious, age worthy wine.

Another defining feature is the domaine’s patience in the vineyard. Grapes are often left to ripen well beyond the point at which many producers would harvest, allowing greater concentration, aromatic complexity and phenolic maturity to develop. This late picking, combined with naturally retained acidity, gives the wines their characteristic richness and depth, while the resulting balance of ripe fruit, freshness and residual sweetness allows them to age exceptionally well.

Silberberg, Kappelweg and Brandhurst are three distinctive vineyard sites that show different facets of Rolly Gassmann’s rich, mature style. Silberberg tends towards greater power and concentration, with ripe fruit, spice and a broad, textured palate, while Kappelweg often shows a more lifted, mineral and finely detailed character. Brandhurst brings another dimension, combining ripe fruit and generous texture with a more savoury, structured character. All three benefit from the domaine’s late harvesting and patient élevage, allowing the wines to develop depth and complexity while retaining the freshness needed to balance their natural richness and off-dry character.

Guiding us through the evening will be Nick Fisher — aka Burgundy Nick — sharing insight, context and stories as we taste, compare and explore together. We'll gather around large tables and start the evening with an aperitif, then settle in for the tasting.

Of course, no tasting of ours would be complete without a sharing board. We love putting these together to complement the wines, so expect charcuterie with a bit of spice and luscious washed-rind cheeses to accompany the wines.

We reserve the right to substitute wines to those of similar quality.
