A Tutored Tasting of Ambonnay Grand Cru Champagnes with Sophie Déthune

Join us for an evening exploring the wines of Champagne Paul Déthune, a highly respected grower producer based in Ambonnay with roots going back to the early 1800s.

Based in Ambonnay Grand Cru, one of Champagne’s great Pinot Noir villages, Paul Déthune is a family domaine with a deep connection to its vineyards and a reputation for Champagnes that combine richness, precision and a strong sense of place.

This exclusive tutored tasting will be led by Sophie Déthune who will take us through a fascinating range of Champagnes, allowing us to explore the influence of terroir, grape variety, dosage, oak ageing and vintage. Along the way, we’ll discover how each cuvée develops its own character while retaining the distinctive richness and structure of Ambonnay.

The flight offers a particularly enjoyable progression in both style and complexity, from the Grand Cru bottlings through to the 2015 vintage.

We’ll begin with the Grand Cru Extra Brut and Brut, a fascinating comparison that shows how dosage can influence the balance and expression of a wine. From there, we’ll move through the Rosé Grand Cru and Blanc de Noirs, before tasting the more complex Princesse des Thunes Grand Cru Extra Brut.

We’ll finish with the 2015 Grand Cru Extra Brut Millésime, giving us the chance to explore the character of a single vintage alongside the domaine’s non-vintage wines.

Six Champagnes, one great Grand Cru terroir and a unique opportunity to taste with the winemaker.

We'll gather around large tables and start the evening with an aperitif, then settle in for the tasting To accompany the tasting we'll serve our renowned  charcuterie and cheese boards.
