Te Mata Estate was set up in 1896, which makes Te Mata one of the Grandfathers of the New Zealand wine trade. To put that date in context much of the New Zealand industy has grown over the last 40 years or so. The grapes are picked from their own vineyards and the wine sees some oak aging but retains its freshness.
