Wines of Savoie Tasting Experience
Located in the foothills of the Alps, Savoie is one of the last, great undiscovered wine regions of France. We are delighted to bring you these fresh and unpretentious wines in one convenient tasting box. We love seeking out interesting wines and grape varieties and these Savoie wines are super approachable and absolutely delicious.
Vineyards of Savoie are set amongst widely dispersed, small communities, clustered together in narrow alpine valleys, growing regional grape varieties such as Altesse, Mondeuse and Jacquere as well as some international ones.
All the wines come from husband and wife independent vignerons Domaine Chevallier Bernard who in 2021 were elected Winemakers of the Year for the region by the guide Hachettes whose vineyards are dotted around Jongieux between the Rhone an d the mountains.
In your box you will get six 75cl bottles of Savoyard wine and full tasting notes.
2020 Jongieux Blanc
Referred to as the Muscadet of the North this is a fresh, light, minerally and fruity wine with a very slight sparkle.
2020 Rousette de Savoie
Dry with aromas of acacia and blossom leading to juicy red apples and white pepper notes, finishing with a fine minerality.
2019 Roussette de Savoie Cru Marestel
The wine here is very different from Roussette de Savoie in both aroma and taste. It has benefitted from slow fermentation that has given it a lovely richness and has developed white blossom and orchard aromas leading to a palate of ripe apples and quince with spicy notes and a rich long finish
2020 Jongieux Gamay
Not native to the region, Gamay was adopted post-phylloxera as a more reliable producer. Whole bunch pressed the resulting wine is fresh, fruity and light with a nice balance,
The local and most famous red variety Mondeuse is one of the grandparents of Syrah., this variety produces tannic robust wines with a crimson red colour, rich in aromas of red fruits and spices and a juicy acidity.
2017 Jongieux Mondeuse Fut de Chene
For this wine only grapes from the best plots are used. It is aged in older oak barrels for 10-12 months then an additional 9-12 months in vats. This gives a fruity, spicy wine with elegant tannins.
