First vintage release from André van Rensburg Wines, Stellenbosch
Offer ends 31st July 2023
Fans of South African wine will no doubt know the name André van Rensburg, the maverick winemaker who was at the helm of legendary Vergelegen for nearly 30 years. Frequently misunderstood, opinionated in the extreme, he remains, without exception, respected by his peers. Success can be measured by the countless local and international awards he has enjoyed during his long and distinguished career at Vergelegen.
His first white release is produced from what is without doubt André’s signature white grape variety: Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a serious barrel-fermented complex example, supported by a small proportion of Semillon. Approachable now, but can easily be cellared for a few years.
The matching red blend is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, with the addition of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The wine enjoyed 18 months in French oak barriques, half of them new. It too will age well.
