The Outstanding Wines of Ronco del Gnemiz Tasting Flight Friday 25th March

Part of our Rare and Sought After range, we are really pleased to be able to offer wine from one of Northern Italy’s leading boutique wineries. Ronco del Gnemiz. We were privileged to try their wines in December last year and were bowled over by the quality and purity of their wines.

Ronco del Gnemiz has been one of the leading wineries of Friuli Venezia-Giulia’s for more than a decade. Owned and managed by Serena Palazzolo  it has gained an international reputation for its distinctive, strictly limited, top quality wines. Her husband and fellow wine maker is Christian Patat, an important figure in Friulan wine contributing to many of the leading wineries including the legendary Miani. Together they have pushed it to new heights due to their commitment to uncompromising quality through organic natural viticulture, low yield and focus on varietal purity.

The grapes used for their wines come from their 6.5 hectare estate located on the Rosazzo hillside in Colli Orientali Del Fruili. The vineyards are based on Friulis prized sandstone soil or 'Ponca' made up of complex mineral and microelement rich subsoils laid down over millions of years. It is this structure that helps deliver grapes that are aromatic and rich in flavour and give the wines a distinctive expression of the terroir.

Ronco del Gnemiz wines are characterised by bright acidity in the whites, with a very careful use of oak, while the reds adopt a classic style with soft but firm tannins. All wines are made with fully mature grapes which are never overripe, and subsequently the rich fruit is the focus for both reds and whites. It is the purity, length and display of true varietal style which places their wines among the gems of the region, and make them a testament to their commitment and passion.

Their wines have very, very limited availability due to low yields and sensitive production methods. We’ve now received our allocation and have got a nice selection of their single vineyard wines each displaying different characteristics. Wines this good are clearly not going to be cheap but the quality across all their wines is clear to see.
