Tutored Tasting Vinhos Niepoort

We are delighted to be able to put on a tasting of one of Portugal’s most iconic wineries, Vinhos Niepoort. We want to show just how innovative Dirk is and will be showcasing some of his more ‘out there’ wines, all of which are interesting and ground breaking and show just how forward thinking Dirk is. Back in the late 1980’s when Niepoort was a traditional Port producer Dirk's father was not best pleased when he told him he wanted to move into making red wine, not just Port! However Dirk was proved right and is still breaking new ground today!

The tasting will be tutored by Phil Ball and the list of wines will be something like this….

Nat – Cool Branco – Think Pet-Nat Vinho Verde, we love it! it is so refreshing and zingy.

Tiara 2019 - Códega do Larinho is the predominant grape variety and the vines are 60 year old. The wine is fresh and dry.

Conciso Branco 2016 – made from Bical, Encruzado and Malvasia from 100 year old vines in the Dão. Dirk was again looking to make a wine a great elegance.

Nat – Cool Voyeur Tinto 2019 – Field blend including some white grapes, Dirk is after complexity with this and it is fermented and aged in clay amphorae. Comes in at a heady 11.5% alcohol…..

Tinta Amarela 2016 – 30 year old Tinta Amarela which you never see on its own. Its spicey with a vegetal edge.

Bastardo 2017 – Bastardo is also known as Trousseau in the Jura, again Dirk was looking for elegance.

Batuta 2014 – We wanted to show one of Niepoorts flagship wines but with some bottle age, these are two of Niepoorts best vineyards, one 70 year old and the other 100 years old…

Cost £35 per person which includes an aperitif, 6 x 50ml tasting glasses and a charcuterie and cheese sharing board.
