Moulin Touchais is one of the Loire Valley’s most traditional and respected estates, located in Thouarcé, in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon appellation of Anjou. The family-run domaine dates back to 1787 and has remained under the Touchais family’s stewardship for over eight generations.
Their hallmark is an unusual approach to winemaking and cellaring: they only produce wines in suitable vintages, harvest the Chenin Blanc grapes in two passes — one early for freshness, one late for botrytis and richness — and age the wines for a minimum of 10 years before release. Some vintages, like this 1985, have rested even longer in their cool cellars before emerging as fully mature, honeyed treasures.
Deep gold in colour with aromas of dried apricot, quince, orange peel and honey. The palate is silky and beautifully balanced, showing mature notes of baked apple, caramelised citrus and spice, lifted by that trademark Chenin acidity. The finish has a balanced sweetness with a savoury edge, that shows wonderful freshness for its age.
